ANÍBAL RODRÍGUEZ was born in Chillán, Chile, in 1990. His first contact with music, and what constitutes some of his earliest musical memories, was listening to his father play traditional Chilean music with guitar and accordion, performing in different groups at home and traveling throughout Chile. These memories became his greatest influence and motivation in wanting to become a musician, and they are what generate his desire to bring traditional Chilean music to the rest of the world.
After a couple of years studying drums at “INTI” academy, he began his piano studies in 2007 at the school of arts “Claudio Arrau León” at the age 17, first with María Teresa del Canto, with whom he spent three years studying, and then with Rodrigo Furet for one year.
Between the years 2008 and 2012, Aníbal studied at the Adventist University of Chile, where he received a Music Teacher Degree, all while continuing his piano studies with Professor Teresa Vallejos. Having obtained his music degree, he found work at the Adventist University as piano and harmony teacher of music pedagogy students. He did this until 2016 when he decided to come to La Sierra University, where he’s currently working towards a Music Performer Certificate under the tutelage of Dr. Elvin Rodríguez.
In addition, from the year 2012 to 2016, Aníbal participated in the Chilean music group “We-Küyen”, an experience that gave him the chance to play traditional Chilean music in different regions of Chile and Easter Island, as well as in Brazil and Argentina.
