If you’ve seen the latest film installment of the Star Wars franchise and if you’ve hung around the Music Department at La Sierra University during the last several years, you may have heard some familiar voices and seen some familiar names. The music score from Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, features three alumni and two current adjunct professors from the Music Department.
The Los Angeles Master Chorale provided the choral portions of the epic John Williams soundtrack and includes music alums Abdiel Gonzalez and Timothy Gonzales. Incidentally, Director of Choral studies Ariel Quintana is a former Associate Conductor of the Master Chorale and former La Sierra Sinfonia Conductor Grant Gershon is the current Artistic Director. The studio orchestra included alum Grace Oh in the violin section as well as current adjunct professor of oboe Rong-Huey Liu and adjunct professor of trumpet Robert Schaer.
Having current faculty and recent alumni participating in a world-class project like this is a positive message to current and future music students at La Sierra University by showing them what their professors and instructors are able to do, what those who have studied before them have accomplished, and what they too may achieve with practice, study and hard work.
