LA SIERRA UNIVERSITY CHORALE & CHAMBER SINGERS are two choral ensembles that give students performance opportunity and community engagement. Both ensembles are directed by Dr. Ariel Quintana.
The University Chorale facilitates all levels of musicality. This ensemble is composed primarily of music majors and non-majors looking to continue having music during their college career. This ensemble is also open to community members that have a passion for choral music.
The University Chamber Singers is an audition-based ensemble and includes undergraduate and graduate students who represent the varied majors and programs at La Sierra University. Most of the student members of the ensemble receive scholarships for their participation. This past summer, the Chamber Singers participated in a two-week tour throughout Japan, starting in Tokyo and ending in Osaka. They had the opportunity to participate in outreach activities with various Adventist institutions as well as being the guest choir for two choral festivals.
ARIEL QUINTANA is the Director of Choral Studies at La Sierra University, where he is an Assistant Professor of Music, and conducts the (La Sierra University) Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Bell Choir.
In 2005, Santa Barbara Publishing released his “Ave verum Corpus” that was premiered by the Cathedral Choir of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood under Quintana, their conductor. Selected compositions have been published by Pavane Publishing, Augsburg Fortress and Fred Bock Music Publishing. His “Mass From Two Worlds,” a self-published work, is distributed by PanaMusica Japan. From 2006 to 2010 he was Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) and has conducted the Chamber Singers as well as the Los Angeles Master Chorale at Disney Hall. He has also prepared the LAMC for John Adams, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Gustavo Dudamel. He continues to write commissions and serves as a clinician and adjudicator in choral festivals and workshops.
