2016 AVPA SUMMER MUSIC PROGRAMS

23 Feb 2016 by In Past Events

June 13 - 24, 2016 | SUMMER MUSIC PROGRAMS

The summer of 2016 will mark the 5th year of the AVPA Summer Music Program!  Located on the beautiful La Sierra University campus, our program has been providing expert music instruction to hundreds of children from grades 3-12 in a safe and stimulating environment.  Many of the children who are now playing in their school’s band, orchestra, or proudly singing in their choir, received their initial start with music through our elementary program.  High school students who are now competing in music competitions and playing recitals had honed and polished their skills through expert coaching in our high school academy program. We are proud to say we have former  participants now studying music in college.

This summer’s program promises to be a banner event as we continue to grow.  Not only do we have some amazing new faculty and guest artists lined up, but we have expanded to provide three new programs!  All programs are 2 weeks and take place from June 13-June 24, 2016.

Grades 3- 6 - Summer Music Camp

The AVPA Summer Music Elementary Music Camp is designed for students in grades 3-6 with or without musical experience.  We have a broad curriculum that will provide a wonderful exposure to musical performance, history, and even theory and composition.  Students will be grouped into performing ensembles by experience.  Those with little or no experience will have expert instruction in learning basic fundamentals  in classes such as  guitar, keyboard, recorder, handbells, ukulele, and singing in a choir.  Students who do have a background in instrumental music will be able to perform in special chamber music ensembles, coached by our wonderful faculty. In addition to the daily music curriculum and ensembles, our young campers will be participating in a special arts and crafts class creating visual artwork focusing on a musical theme.  And, every year, the children have enjoyed participating in our collaborative group project.
